Dear Summer....

It's been scarce around flossmoorstation.blogspot.com recently. As I have said before, that either means nothing is going on, or everything is going on. In this case everything is going on. I bottled up 77 cases of Pullman yesterday and we have done 4 brews in the last 7 days. Most brewers would scoff but for us that's pretty busy. Sometimes you just need to get away from work and away from beer for a while. I took off a few days and made it a long Memorial day weekend. Fishing, guns, beer, etc. Not all at the same time mind you.

So now I/we are back in it, and hard. I dropped two kegs off at Map Room today. We have a tasting at Armanetti's in Lakeview on Friday. See you around. Don't be strangers.

Tap List 5/28/08

Hattentot Hefeweizen (5.1% a.b.v.)

Hattentot is a pale and hazy yellowish beer with a large fluffy head. The fruity aroma begins with a whiff of banana and citrus fruits. The body is medium with a fruity middle and a slightly spicy character reminiscent of cloves. It finishes clean and is very thirst quenching.

Pretty Big IPA (8.5% a.b.v.)

Yeah, it’s Pretty Big

Milky Way Stout (4.1% a.b.v.)
A sweet stout made with lactose that stays behind in the beer because yeast can't ferment it. Creamy with lots of caramel and stouty flavors. And at only 4.1% it's an easy drinker.

Killer Kowalski Baltic Porter
(8.0% a.b.v.)
The reigning best Baltic Porter in the country. Our deep, dark, full-bodied lager. A slightly bittersweet chocolate aroma with a malty body that hints at dark fruits. It's complex and very enjoyable with a touch of roast finish.

Black Wolf Schwarz bier
(4.8% a.b.v.)
The best schwarz bier in the U.S. according to the 2006 Great American Beer Festival. Lager body and finish with a touch of roasty aroma and body. A distinct but not overpowering black beer that just may change your idea about what a "dark beer" is.

De Zuidentrein Kreik (6.8% a.b.v.)
Leftorium aged in a wine barrel with sour cherries. We had room on the bar so you make room in your gullet.

Guest tap: Founder's Centennial IPA

I had the time of my life.... so the summer is creeping up and with that means Andrew and I have a whole lot of festivals, events and now appearances and tastings with this new production line. Here's a glimpse of our calendar for now. We'll add more events and more information on these as they approach.

*Friday, May 30th-Bottled Beer tasting at Armenetti's on Lincoln. 5:30/6-8PM

*Saturday June 7-Brew Ha Ha at Balmoral Park. 6PM $25. Music, giveaways, and more. Craft beer and Ponies! Don't miss it.

*Saturday July 12th-Chicago AleFest. Soldier Field. New location. Bigger. Better.

*Saturday August 9th-Great Taste of the Midwest. Good luck getting tickets. DON'T call me.

*Saturday August 23rd. Some new fest in Oak Park?? more details TBA

*Saturday September 13th. Flossmoor Fest.

*Wednesday September 17th. Beer dinner with City Provisions in Chicago.

So that's a good start. Surely we'll commit to more. Let's hope I can get away from the brewery for a few days. Oh wait, isn't that what beer festivals are...vacation??
cheers!

New (Old) Tank

We drove over to this little town in northwestern Indiana today and bought a tank off of some brewery called Three Floyds. This is our new 7 bbl grundy so that I don't have to bottle off of kegs any more. Filling efficiency is going to go through the roof. Here are some photos from today.

We found a spot between the torrential downpours this morning to get it in the back of the truck.

a nervous ride back home.

I de-pressurized the tank and drained it. When I looked inside what was in it but Dark Lord from 3 years ago. Someone call Ebay!
