Westward Ho!

Many of you may have heard by now, but the Van Wyk's are hitchin' up the oxen and makin' new life in the western frontier. A couple of weeks ago I accepted a job in Oregon and will be leaving Flossmoor Station Brewing Company.
In the five and a half years that I have been fortunate enough to lead the brewery at FSBC, I have come across some great people, brewers, suppliers, and customers. I'll miss creating beer for you all but fear not, you will be in good hands. I'm confident that the tradition will live on with my replacement and you will still be enjoying great beers and great service long after I am gone. It was true five years ago when Todd left FSBC and will be true again.

Near the end of March I will end my run at Flossmoor Station and head to Eugene Oregon. It should be an interesting and fun journey traveling half way across the country with my wife and two very excited kids. Hopefully we will not have to hunt for food along the way. And hopefully we also won't have to create a tombstone for anybody.......

Didn't you just love playing Oregon Trail when you were little.? As you can see it holds a special place in my heart. Flossmoor Station and Chicagoland will too and I'll probably be making references to them in my future posts on the www. I'll give you some more on my destination and perhaps a way to follow my exploits out there if you have time to kill. Certainly you don't think I would stop being connected to my loyal readers, do you?

Please stop by in the next two months to have a beer and chat for a bit. I'd like to see you one last time...

Matt, best of luck with the move! My wife and I moved from Chicago last July, and being a beer lover, it was a bummer to move away from the amazing beer scene in Chicagoland. Flossmoor Station was my favorite place of all. I miss your brews, and know that Flossmoor and the whole Chicagoland area will miss them as well when you head west. Departures are always so bitter-sweet!

p.s. If you happen to start working for a brewery that distributes to Boston, my wife and I will be thrilled!

You know, Matt, it's all fun and games until you die of dysentery. ;-)

Seriously though, all I ask is that you brew your imperial mocha java stout at your new place of business and send me a bottle. Only then will I consider forgiving you for leaving the greatest city in the world (or, technically, a suburb of the greatest city in the world).

Hey, matt! If I'd have known moving out of the area would hurt business this much, I'd've stayed.I will try to call ahead to find when you'll be in so I can share my Baby Julia Barley Wine!

You -- and your brew -- will be missed, Matt. You probably know that you're heading into another great brewing culture out in Oregon; hope you have a blast out there!

Days of old, knights were bold, and beer was just being invented a man named Matt, who I have to tip my hat, has made some Bodacious brews.
I have enjoyed meeting Matt. He has always answered my question as it was the first time he has been asked that. It was always nice to see Matt and family at the Station. I always gave me a feeling of home.
Good Luck and Cheers
